Electronic Media - "The Domination Of Prime Time Viewership"

Before anything else one should know what is Electronic Media?
Electronic Media, generally i.e in Indian context, is referred to the media which is related mainly to television. It is in contrast of Print Media, which is basically related to printing press and paper.
Now, as of today, I will discuss only the media which is related to news, views and analysis (leaving Entertainment and Education which are also important parts of Electronic Media).Few years back (around 15 years), in India there was only one channel which was the wholesole media i.e Information, Entertainment and Education. It was Doordarshan. People used to work whole day and when they returned home they used to turn on the TV and watch it with pleasure.

Then it was all revolutionised after the Kargil war (I am talking only about the news channels. Other channels do existed before as well). Many new news channels came into existence and they presented exclusive reports on the ongoing war and its aftermath. People started taking interest in these channels which served as the better alternative for the traditional ongoing Doordarshan. Although Doordarshan was free-to-air (we just need to install an antenna), the other private channels cost a little fortune in the form of cable charges. In all, it all changed the scenario and there started our today's topic of debate i.e "The Domination Of Prime-Time Viewership".

Today, the condition is that the TV is flooded with number of news channels and they are evolving day by day. Anything happens in the world, they are there to serve us with the latest updates. It is really a nice thing that we are now, more aware of the happenings around, but the old saying prevails... "Too much of anything is bad".

In the quest of broadcasting the earliest i.e "Breaking News", the channels have lowered the quality of information and often finds themselves in the midst of wrong and crap news. Moreover, they donot take the responsibility of the crap they delivered few hours ago. This incomplete and hasty information can prove to be a disaster for the masses.

The public viewership is often assesed by the Target Rating Point commonly known as TRP. More the viewership of any channel, more will be the TRP of the same. The whole game is to increase the TRP as soon as possible and no matter how it is possible. And there come the "Exclusive Reports" airing on different channels from time to time. These reports are meant to sensationalise the public and often result in terrorising them. It is seen that in the haste of broadcasting the earliest, most of these reports are not fully correct and tend to be wrong from the beginning. The recent example being the "Noida Double-Murder Case" in which they all victimised Dr. Rajesh Talwar, without any solid proofs against him, that he murdered her only daughter Aarushi, and his servant Hemraj. Later in the incidentstory it was disclosed he was not guilty. Moreover the channels accused Aarushi of having unacceptable relationship with Hemraj and Dr. Talwar's relationship with fellow co-worker Dr. Anita Durrani. These all disclosures were totally baseless and crap. Just give a thought over the bereaved famliy who lost a loving child and they have to bear such accusations. Who the hell is responsible for all this defame and
insult which the Talwar's had to face? They all did it just for the sake of their TRPs.

Lastly, the ongoing Mediabite of the various TV shows running on entertainment channels. Gosh, sometimes I feel I am not watching a news channel but an entertainment channel filled with all the "Saas-Bahu" stuff, Siddhu laughing in "Laughter Shows", celebrities dancing and singing on different "Reality Shows", and all the stuff which was once confined to some specific type of channels. It is said, (though not offcially) that these entertainment channels pay a certain amount of money to these news channels so as to promote their programmes and increase their viewership. There again the money game comes into picture. The people like me who really want to hear and watch some qualtiy news are often left disgusted and irritated with such kind of stuff.

Frankly, I don't think anything is going to change in the near future, but now slowly people are getting bored and irritated with such kind of stuff and may be possible gradually this scenario shifts in the right direction. Lets hope for the best.

Review - "Matrubhoomi - A Nation Without Women"

Today I saw Matrubhoomi. Its been released quite a long time ago but I got the chance to watch it today. After a long time, any movie touched my heart so deeply.

The stroy begins with the scenario that at a certain time no woman, young or old, little girl or aged, is left on the planet. Men are desperate and worried thinking of their present and future. No girls are left, so no marriages are happening. This is a very vital situation. Then focus comes on one rich family who has five young men, all of marriageable age and desperate to get married. They have hired a local priest to search a girl from other villages.

This priest once on the trip to other village finds a girl who was hiding with her father because of the chaos which prevailed in the society. The priest offers her father a huge amount and the girl is married to all five brothers of that rich family. Since the girl was married to five men, they decide to fix certain days of week on which they can sleep with her one by one. Then comes the father of the men, and demands that he also wants to sleep with the girl. So, the girl is victimised of marital rape over and over again.

But there was one of the brothers who was good natured and felt the pain of the poor girl. So he shows sympathy towards her and helps her. This makes the girl to fall in love with him. This attitude of their brother is not tolerable to others and they all kill the good guy. This incident worsen the life of the girl and all hopes she had are shattered. She writes to her father about her pity state but this doesnot help as that greedy and self-centred man comes and instead of helping her out demands more money from the family as the father of the guys was also sleeping with the girl. She tries to run away with the servant but was unsuccessful. Now the girl is being chained and kept with the cattle in vicious condition. There she is being raped by one of the villageman who came to take revenge of the murder of the servant who was being killed at the time of her escape.

Evantually she becomes pregnant and all of them become aware of it. Then they start arguing on who is the father of this unborn child. The guy who raped her claims that he is the father and this initiates a fight among the husbands and him, which take a violent shape and all of them are killed. The story ends with the girl giving birth to a baby girl.

Its a pity that in our society and culture where women are worshipped as Goddess, we have to face a serious issue of Female Infanticide. According to official reports that In India around 350 million female children are found missing soon after their birth in the past 100 years. Leave the count of them who have been not reported and mentioned. At this critical rate the time is not far away when we have to face the similar situation as depicted in the movie.

Inside About Rabbi's New Song Bilqis (Jinhe Naaz Hai)

Rabbi Shergill yet again does it. After two mind blowing songs "Bulla Ki Jaana" and "Tere Bin" (both from his album "Bulla Ki Jaana" ), his new album "Avengi Ja Nahi" is out which has this song "Bilqis (Jinhe Naaz Hai)".

Now, what is so special about this song which made me write about it? This song briefly describes the incidences which took place in recent past which shook the whole nation. The people described involve Bilqis Yakoob Rasool, Satyendra Dubey, Shanmughan Manjunath and Navleen Kumar.

Bilqis Yakoob Rasool

Bilqis Yakoob Rasool, mother to a 3-year-old son, is a Muslim woman from Gujarat, India. Bilqis survived the massacre of her family in which her daughter was killed and she was gang raped.

She has overcome police negligence & cover-ups to pursue those responsible, resulting in several arrests and criminal proceedings being brought. Bilqis Yakoob Rasool was five months pregnant when a Hindu mob caught up with her family on 3 March 2002 as they fled violence in their home village. Bilqis, who was 19 years old at the time, was gang-raped, and saw at least three other relatives raped. Her three-year-old daughter was killed in front of her.

Fourteen members of her family were killed during this attack. Bilqis reported it all to police, but the case was closed in January 2003. The police said that those responsible could not be found. In spite of the risks in taking the unusual step of speaking out, Bilqis continued to pursue justice for herself and her family.

In December 2003 the Supreme Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to reinvestigate the case. It found evidence of police failure and attempts to cover up the crime. The CBI has since arrested several of the accused and six police officers. In August 2004, the Supreme Court ordered the case to be tried in Mumbai. This case is still ongoing.

Satyendra Dubey

Satyendra Kumar Dubey was project director at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He was assassinated in Gaya, Bihar for fighting corruption in the Golden Quadrilateral highway construction project.

On November 27, 2003, Dubey was returning from a wedding in Varanasi, and called his driver to meet him at the station. He reached Gaya railway station at three in the morning, and found that the his car was not able to come because of a battery malfunction.

It appears that at this point Dubey decided to take a rickshaw home. When he didn’t reach home, his driver went to look for him and found him dead by the side of the road in the suburb of A.P. Colony. He had been shot.

The news ignited tremendous public hue and cry. The matter was raised in Parliament, and the Prime Minister shifted the onus of investigation from the Bihar Police (who might themselves be implicated), to the CBI.

A foundation, SK Dubey foundation, was set up to fight corruption in India.

The CBI registered a case against unknown persons under 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code and various provision under Arms Act on December 14 2003.

Shanmughan Manjunath

Shanmugam Manjunath was a marketing engineer for the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) who was murdered for sealing a corrupt petrol station in UP, who later became a rallying cry for IIM, IIT and other institutes students.

While working for the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in Lucknow, he had ordered two petrol pumps at Lakhimpur Kheri sealed for selling adulterated fuel for three months. When the pump started operating again a month later, Manjunath decided to conduct a surprise raid around November 19, 2005.

Having not heard from his son for three days, at around 9 that night, his father, M Shanmughan, had sent an SMS: "How are you?". There was no reply because that very night, during his inspection, Manjunath had been shot dead. His body, riddled with at least six bullets, was found in the backseat of his own car, which was being driven by two employees of the petrol pump. Both were arrested and the main accused, pump-owner Pawan Kumar Mittal, was held on November 23 along with seven others.

On 26th March 2007, the main accused Pawan Kumar Mittal was awarded death sentence, while the other seven accused were sentenced to life imprisonment.

A pan IIM initiative, "The Manjunath Shanmugam Trust" was registered on 23rd February 2006, Manjunath's birth anniversary. With immediate objectives of fighting the case, they have a broader agenda of improving governance in Indian public life.

Navleen Kumar

Ms. Navleen Kumar, who worked for the land rights of adivasis/tribals in Nallasopara, outskirts of Mumbai was stabbed to death on the terrace of her flat. She had been fighting against builders and land mafia who had been usurping tribal land by terror, force and fraud over the last 20-25 years, to restore the land rights to the tribals - the original owners. On the 19th of June 2002, she was stabbed 19 times.

BJP’s one-vote defeat in 1999 was narrowest in history

The Vajpayee government lost the day on April 17, 1999, only to dramatically return to power a few months later. But that is another story.

The tense morning began with BSP promising then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee that its MPs would support the government. It was around 10.45 am. A short while later, MPs began to file into the House and assuming their seats.

The tension and the buzz were palpable. There was an electric undercurrent as government managers anxiously trawled the aisles, eyes darting from one side to another. The House was soon called to order and the debate began to wind up. It was time for BSP leader Mayawati to speak. She rose and without much ado said that she would be opposing the government. A babble broke out at BSP MPs Arif Khan and Akbar Ahmed applauded and the numbers began to go against the government.

The final honours were done by Saifuddin Soz who defied his party, the National Conference, to vote against the government and Orissa chief minister Giridhar Gamang also pressing the no button. Despite having been CM for a couple of months, Gamang was yet to resign from the Lok Sabha and used his dubious privilege to vote against the Vajpayee government. Gamang has been somewhat shy to take credit for his act but Soz has shown no such inhibition. Soz thereafter saw himself as a cause celebre in having brought down a “communal” government.

There were other significant aspects to the dramatic vote. The government’s chief trouble shooter Pramod Mahajan had tired hard to chase down every vote on offer, but the nature of the highly polarised House made it difficult to scrape the numbers. PWP’s Ramsheth Thakur defied all the persuasion by government managers. It was down to the wire on the morning and Mahajan lost a couple of crucial turns of the dice.

The mood in the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament in the aftermath of the defeat was predictably glum. A close aide of then home minister L K Advani came in to ask for a couple of telephone numbers. Some BJP supporters tried to collar Mahajan and accuse him of letting down the party. To others, the ill-omened government, always at the mercy of the mercurial AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha had met a predictable end. When the one vote difference did show up on the Lok Sabha’s screens that afternoon, the House was briefly stunned into silence before the Opposition’s whoops of delight broke out.

In the PM’s seat, Vajpayee took one look at the results and raised his hand to his forehead in a mock salute. There was no denying the digital numbers flashing overhead. But his effort to stay stoic gave away when late Vijayaraje Scindhia, mother of Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, broke down in the PM’s office in the Parliament building. Even as Vajpayee comforted her, he had trouble staying calm himself.

MANAGEMENT LESSONS

Lesson Number One
---------------------------

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothingall day long?"
The crow answered: "Sure, why not."
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of asudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Management Lesson:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must besitting very, very high up.

Lesson Number Two
---------------------------
A turkey was chatting with a bull.
"I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed theturkey, "but I haven't got the energy. "Well, why don't you nibble onsome of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed withnutrients."
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gavehim enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fortnight, there he was proudly perched at the top ofthe tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Management Lesson:
Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson Number Three
-----------------------------
When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, "I should be Boss because I control the whole body'sresponses and functions."
The feet said, "We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and gethim to where he wants to go." The hands said, "We should be the Bossbecause we do all the work and earn all the money." And so it went onand on with the heart, the lungs and the eyes until finally theasshole spoke up.
All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss. So the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work. Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic and the brainfevered. Eventually they all decided that the asshole should be the Boss, so the motion was passed.
All the other parts did all the work while the Boss just sat andpassed out the shit!

Management Lesson:
You don't need brains to be Boss, any asshole will do!
_____________________________________________________________

Lesson Number Four
----------------------------

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, thebird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lyingthere, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realize how warm itwas. The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard he bird singing and came to investigate. Followingthe sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, andpromptly dug him out and ate him!

Management Lessons:
1. Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy.
2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
3. When you're in deep shit, keep your mouth shut!

Meaning Of FÜHRER

Führer is a noun meaning "leader" or "guide" in the German language, derived from the verb führen 'to lead'. Though the word remains common in German, it does come with some social stigma attached (though not when used as meaning guide), and under Hitler was part of the title of many positions in the various military and governmental organizations of Germany.

It is mainly used in English and third languages (spelled Fuehrer when the ü-umlaut is not used) as the term for Nazi Germany's ruler Adolf Hitler. Führer was the title granted by Chancellor Hitler to himself, by the Enabling Law which gave him supreme power in the German Parliament following the death of the last head of Germany Paul von Hindenburg, on August 2, 1934.

All You Want To Know About A Scorpio

Scorpio Astrology October 23 - November 21

Scorpio Strength Keywords:

- Loyal
- Passionate
- Resourceful
- Observant
- Dynamic

Scorpio Weakness Keywords:

- Jealous
- Obsessive
- Suspicious
- Manipulative
- Unyielding

Scorpio and Independence:

Scorpios are fiercely independent. They are able to accomplish anything they put their mind to and they won't give up. They are perfectly suited to being on their own. They are not social butterflies like some other zodiac signs and some actually prefer to live on their own that way there is never any issue of who controls what at home, they like to be in control.

Scorpio and Friendship:

Relationships with Scorpio are always complicated, just like the person, their relationships are a series of extremes, they can even be downright moody for no apparent reason. Scorpios are known for their possessiveness and jealousy but on the other hand, they are extremely loyal. Scorpios have an excellent memory and combined with an inability to let things go, they can hold a grudge against someone who did them harm forever, in fact a Scorpio rarely if never forgives and forgets. They will even go as far as get vengeance on the person. On the other hand, they will always remember a kind gesture forever and repay it. Any kind selfless gesture done to a Scorpio will gain trust and respect which is extremely important to them in any relationship, either romantic or not. The best advice is to be honest with a Scorpio friend and in return, you will gain an amazing friend you will never forget and who will be loyal to you and never make false promises. Their truthful and shocking sense of humor if different than that of any other zodiac sign and the Scorpio makes an amazing, powerful interesting friend that can be trusted.

Scorpio and Business:

Scorpios make excellent doctors, surgeons, scientists and leaders, they are perfectly suited to any form of business that makes a difference in the world, greatly impacts people and society and a most importantly, Scorpio has to be in a power position, this is why these careers are suited to the Scorpio, they all demand one person in supreme control giving orders and leading a unit of people/practices. In business, Scorpios tend to easily gather wealth, they make very wise business decisions and they are very conservative about spending their money. Scorpios are known for making money and hiding it, they will not announce it due to to fear that others will take the same route and becoming a possible competitor, or worse try to use the Scorpio to their
advantage to use them for their money.

Scorpio and Temperament:

Scorpios are extremely ambitious, persistent and determined which is shown through a power hungry, controlling attitude. Not in a stubborn sense however, because a Scorpio will work for what they want and control will justified reasons. This is obvious to any onlooker. A Scorpio never gives up, they are so determined to reach their goal. The key to this success is their flexibility. They are able to re-survey a situation and take a different approach if necessary. This makes them very adaptable and versatile. Scorpios are fierce competitors, combined with their powers of observation and their excellent memory, they will recall facts and when necessary, bring them to the table at the time of need. They will win justly, with proper facts and arguments to support their thoughts and opinions. Scorpios are excellent at restoring order to a chaotic situation and they are just as capable of manipulating for their own greed and benefit. The un-evolved Scorpio is a very dangerous person because they use their powers to benefit only them and step on other people in order to satisfy their own greed.

Scorpio Deep Inside:

Scorpio is the most misunderstood of all astrology signs. They are all about intensity and contradictions. They like to be aware of a situation and always know what's going on, figuring this out with their probing mind, on the other hand, they are interested in the occult, the paranormal, conspiracy theories and other types of similar unknown mysteries. They are very capable of hiding their true feelings and motivations, they often have ulterior motives or a hidden agenda. Scorpios are all about control, they need to be in control at all times. To be out of
control is very threatening, even dangerous to the Scorpio's psyche, when they control, they feel safe. Scorpios are very emotional, their emotions are intensified, both good emotions and bad. Negative emotions of jealousy and resentment are hallmarks of this turbulent astrology sign. On the other side, Scorpios are well known for their forceful and powerful drive to succeed and their amazing dedication. Scorpios are constantly trying to understand their emotions through finding a deeper purpose in life. Scorpios are very intuitive, but not as in a psychic sense, more as intuitive into the human mind, they have a great understanding of the mystery and the power of the human mind. Scorpios have a fear of failure which they keep hidden extremely well, should their confrontation not be successful, or their career fail, they will simply use their adaptive skill to quickly move and and leave the bad experience behind. Do not ever expect them to fess up or share their tale with anyone however because this shows signs of weakness and Scorpio always wins, they are always the self-proclaimed best! One of the reasons they seem like they always accomplish their goals is because they set tangible short-term goals that they know they can accomplish, they know what they are capable of and this is what they go for. Scorpios are very weary about trusting anyone, a person needs to gain their trust and this gets built up over time and once all the 'trust tests' have been passed, Scorpio loves deeply and intensely. Underneath the cool exterior, energies and emotions are constantly flowing but the Scorpio deals with this be channeling this into useful activities, hobbies, relationships or a career. This is never apparent to the outside observer but knowing this fact explains why Scorpios are so passionate about whatever it is that they are undertaking. Scorpios have powerful instincts and they trust their own gut feeling which is another reason why a Scorpio seldom fails. The ongoing lesson in life for those born under the Scorpio zodiac signs, is to channel their powerful energy into positive goals and not succumbing to the darker forces in life such as manipulation and greed, they will then have great success in their life and have a clean, happy conscience and a circle of friends they can trust and hold dear to them.

Scorpio in a Nutshell:

Scorpio is the astrology sign of extremes and intensity. Scorpios are very deep, intense people, there is always more then meets the eye. They present a cool, detached and unemotional air to the world yet lying underneath is tremendous power, extreme strength, intense passion and a strong will and a persistent drive. Scorpios have a very penetrative mind, do not be surprised if they ask questions, they are trying to delve deeper and figure things out and survey the situation. They always want to know why, where and any other possible detail they can possibly know. Scorpio's are very weary of the games that other people try to play and they are very aware of it. Scorpios tend to dominate and control anyone that lets them, or anyone that they find weak. The person that a Scorpio respects and holds close to them is treated with amazing
kindness, loyalty and generosity. On the outside, a Scorpio has great secretiveness and mystery. This magnetically draws people to them. They are known to be controlling and too ambitious but only because they need control for this makes them feel safe.

What it's Like to Date a Scorpio Woman:

Scorpio woman is very emotional, very demanding and very demonstrative. She is full of flair and intrigue, a fascinating woman that the strong A-type personality male will adore, for she presents the right amount of challenge with the right amount of rewards. The Scorpio woman is the ultimate seductive, flirtatious woman. She won't give a man her heart very easily because she is weary of trusting another person. The man will have to go through a series of 'mental testes' in order for the relationship to get solid and close. She may not show it, but she wants a close committed relationship. Ion order for this, the man has to be trusted, has to be affectionate and never try to control her. She is very possessive but the Scorpio woman is so full of mystery, sensuality and passion that most men do not mind being possessed by her.

What it's Like to Date a Scorpio Man:

TheScorpio male is unlike any other man of any other astrology sign. He is so unique that a seperate section is needed to explain about dating theScorpio man. Unlike most other zodiac signs, what it's like to date a Scorpio woman is very similar to dating a Scorpio man. The main difference is that instead of presenting a powerful feminine force like the woman, the Scorpio man presents a strong masculine, sexual force. The Scorpio man is easy to seduce and take home for the night, it is much harder to form a real relationship with him. The Scorpio man is very sensitive and feels lonely and unfulfilled, but he will never let a woman know this. Behind closed doors, be sensitive and affectionate to him appeal to his emotions only if you want a close relationship with him do not attempt to lead him on because he will see this and never forgive you. Toying with a Scorpio male is an unwise move. He will be jealous and possessive and will never allow a woman to control him. Let him take the lead because the Scorpio male is truly a fascinating person, you can never go wrong when he is planning the night! Scorpio men are very moody and their moods change like a pendulum on a clock. Stand by his side in these times and it will pass. Do not nag on him for he has a hard enough time understanding his own emotions. Scorpio men make excellent protectors and you will always feel safe under his radiating, passionate and energetic power.

How to Attract Scorpio:

Never be fake with a Scorpio, they can see it a mile away. Be genuine with your comments and listen to them attentively, (they always have something interesting to say so this is never a problem!) Do not try to hide things from them or tease them, they always have to know what is going on. Remember, they are the only ones that are allowed to tease and present the mystery and intrigue! They like frankness and honesty, speak your mind they will respect that. Scorpios are interested in almost all activities, so finding something to do should never be a problem. They are unpredictable and could change course of the date mid-way though so take these last minute changes with a smile and try something different. They like people who are not afraid to ditch a plan and try another. In conversation, do not tell them that their opinions are wrong or shoot them down, they are too proud for this and even if it is a joke, they might not take it with the humor that you meant. Never try to control them but do not be the damsel in distress either, they like strong, real people with driving ambitious personality like theirs.

Jo Beet Gayi So Baat Gayi
